MY STORY

My name is Mindy Klinger...and I love sweets.

My love of baking springs from my love of all things sweet...chocolate, frosting, vanilla, frosting, pies and tarts, frosting, desserts, frosting...I grew up watching incredulously as my Grandmother created works of art for her grandchildren's birthdays, her friends' children's weddings, and eventually my own wedding, the sweet smell of buttercream icing and perfectly baked white and chocolate cakes filling her kitchen and her home.  I remember sitting at the kitchen table waiting and watching, hoping beyond hope that she would accidentally make too many roses or drop flowers for the cake so that I could eat them later.  And licking the gooey part of the cake that stuck to the parchment paper

off my fingers...

 

And now, 30 years later, I have poured over the same books with which she taught herself to decorate cakes, and I've played at techniques she told me she didn't have the patience to try, and I've made cakes for just about every occasion imaginable...if it's an occasion, it calls for a cake, after all.  I love that I can always learn something more...I can continually work to perfect something I've tried.  Every cake is a challenge.  Every cake is therapy for a sometimes too-busy life.  Every cake is an opportunity to have my kids standing around me with bags of frosting, creating their own miniature works of art.  It doesn't get much better.
